Overview
Many issues you might have connecting to Asbury’s network as a guest can be resolved quickly and easily. Use this step-by-step guide to restore your connection!
1. Logging into the Network
Before moving forward, be sure that you are connected to the Asbury network over WiFi to the AU Guest network using the password Asbury1890.
2. Turning your Network Connection Off and Back On
If you are registered to the network but unable to access the internet, go to your device's Network and Internet settings and turn the network connection off and back on again to reset the configuration.
On Windows, Search for "View Network Connections" in the start menu and open the link. Select the WiFi Connection and click "Disable this network device," then restart the device.
On macOS, use the WiFi toggle in the toolbar.
On iOS, go to Settings > WiFi and toggle WiFi off and on again.
On Android, navigate to your device network settings and turn WiFi off then back on again.
3. Adjust Your Network Settings
If you don't have a stable network connection after connecting to AU Guest, you may need to adjust your device's network settings on some macOS and iOS devices.
On Windows, select the Start button, then enter settings. Select Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi. Turn off Random hardware addresses. Toggle your WiFi off and on again.
On macOS, go to System Settings > Wi-Fi > and click Details... next to the AU Guest connection. Turn off Limit IP address tracking and click OK. Toggle your WiFi off and on again.
On iOS devices, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > and click the information icon next to the AU Guest connection. Turn off Private Wi-Fi Address and Limit IP address tracking. Toggle your WiFi off and on again.
On Android, navigate to your device's network settings. Under WiFi, select AU Guest. Under Privacy, select Use device MAC. If this feature is not listed, your phone may not support this feature. If this is the case, skip to the next section.
4. Forgetting the Network
If the connection still fails, attempt to forget the network and sign in again to reset your device's network configuration. This will clear any misconfigured network settings that your device may have cached, such as DNS settings, WiFi passwords, and IP registrations.
Windows:
- From the Windows desktop, navigate: Start > Settings icon > Network & Internet.
- Click Wi-Fi, then Manage known networks.
- Click the appropriate Wi-Fi network name (AU Student or AU Wireless).
- Click Forget.
- Re-add the AU Student network and enter the password GoEagles.
- Register the device at connect.asbury.edu.
macOS:
- Click the WiFi icon in the toolbar and select "Network Preferences"
- Click "Advanced."
- Select the network and click the minus button.
- Re-add the AU Student network and enter the password GoEagles.
- Register the device at connect.asbury.edu.
On iOS devices, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > and click the information icon next to the AU Guest connection. Click Forget This Network. Attempt to rejoin the network.
On Android, navigate to your device's network settings. Under WiFi, look for Saved networks. Select AU Guest and click Forget. Attempt to rejoin the network.
5. Checking your DNS Settings
Make sure that your DNS is not set to Static and that Asbury's 4 DNS servers are being used:
172.20.1.16
172.20.1.18
172.20.1.15
172.20.1.9
On Windows, go to Settings > Network & Internet > and click on Properties next to the AU Guest connection. Under "IPv4 DNS servers," the four addresses above should be listed. If they are not, click Edit under "DNS server assignment," select Automatic, and click Save.
On macOS, go to System Settings > Wi-Fi > and click Details... next to the AU Guest connection. Go to the DNS tab. If any DNS servers other than the above four are listed, remove them.
On iOS devices, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > and click the information icon next to the AU Guest connection. Click Forget This Network. Attempt to rejoin the network.
On Android, navigate to your device's network settings. Under WiFi, select AU Guest. Look for a DNS listing near the bottom of the page. The four addresses above should be listed. If they are not, navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Private DNS and change the setting to Automatic. If this feature is not listed, refer to your phone's documentation on accessing DNS settings.
6. Rebooting the Device
If resetting your connection does not resolve the issue, turn the device off and back on again. This will ensure that all network services are running and receiving the most up-to-date settings.
