Overview
The Campus Shield safety app is available to all campus students and employees. Campus Shield will enhance communication between our campus and Safety & Security staff, and provide helpful information to users.
Downloading CampusShield
2. Open the app and register using your Asbury University email address and your mobile phone number.
Features
Emergency (swipe) Feature
Swiping the emergency button alerts Campus Safety & Security of your general location on campus. Safety & Security will call your phone to determine how to assist, which may include sending outside first responders (police, fire, ambulance) to your estimated location. If your phone is not answered, Safety & Security staff will begin looking for you to assist. When the emergency feature is active, Security can see your movements on campus. Note: This feature is less effective in determining your location inside buildings with multiple floors.
If you swipe the emergency button off campus (outside the geo-fence), or the app has difficulty determining your GPS location, the app will prompt you to dial 911.
Please note: This feature is not a substitute for calling 911 when needed. However, anytime 911 is called, Campus Safety & Security also needs to be called to assist first responders.
Anonymous Tips
This feature allows you to report concerns you have observed and send a picture and text message. Although users can choose to submit anonymously, we encourage users to not submit anonymously to more easily verify the nature of the concern, which saves time and resources. The information shared in a narrative is more important than trying to determine the "right" category. Safety & Security staff and the user can chat as needed to communicate.
Friend Watch
Using this tool, you can choose someone in your contacts to help keep you safe during transit. Choose a contact, set a time limit for you to walk, and the system will allow your contact to know your general location via a link. When you reach your destination, you may enter your previously set up personal code to stop the location tracker and notify your contact(s) you feel safe.
If time expires, the friend(s) will receive the following message:
Area Map
The area map has pre-identified locations for campus building evacuation points (blue pins) (fire, etc.) and AED locations (red pins). Touch one of the pin locators for more information.
Request Safe Transport
This feature will prompt the user to call the main university number.
Resources feature:
Users can review excerpts of the emergency response plan describing actions to take if there is any type of aggression on campus or during weather emergencies. Users also have quick access to other campus safety and security information.
